The Shebag factory has shipped the Gold Brown Mini Kelly 2 in Swift leather with exterior stitching and gold hardware.

The saddle stitching on this Gold Brown Mini Kelly 2 in Swift leather—featuring exterior stitching and gold hardware—centers on double-needle waxed thread, hand-crossing, precise tension control, and compatibility with soft leather, executed entirely by hand. It is tailored to the soft and supple characteristics of Swift leather, ensuring the exterior stitches remain structured and coordinate perfectly with Hermès-style gold brown coloring.

When replicating this bag, artisans at the Shebag factory begin with thorough pre-production preparation: high-twist linen thread is soaked in beeswax and air-dried, with a round-tip needle of the same specification threaded at each end. Thread length is reserved according to the exterior stitching perimeter of the Mini Kelly 2 to guarantee no joins throughout the entire process, in line with Hermès standards.

Swift leather is soft and delicate; after cutting, components are precisely positioned, and the bag body, side panels, and other parts are secured with wooden clamps. Edges are lightly pre-sanded to prevent the leather surface from fraying during stitching. A diamond awl is then used to hand-punch holes at 3–4mm intervals, with vertical, uniformly deep holes to create three-dimensional exterior stitch lines.

Stitching starts from the initial hole on the front of the bag body: double threads emerge from the back, with the knot concealed inside the hole. The left and right threads are pulled to equal length to lay the foundation for cross-stitching.

The core technique is double-needle cross-stitching: the left needle enters the next hole without being tightened, the right needle passes diagonally backward through the same hole, loops over the left thread, and both are pulled diagonally tight simultaneously. Each stitch follows the “one hole, two needles, cross-locking” method, creating even wave stitches on the front and neat lines on the back.

Tension is strictly controlled throughout: the stitches lie snugly against the Swift leather without sinking in, yet without damaging the soft material. The exterior stitches are crisp and structured, complementing the gold brown leather and gold hardware in texture.

At corners, the process is slowed down, and hole angles are finely adjusted to maintain smooth, untwisted stitches. Stitch spacing and tension are checked every 3–5 stitches to ensure uniform exterior stitching across the bag.

For finishing, backstitching is performed through 3 reserved holes for reinforcement. After the double needles emerge from the final hole, a surgeon’s knot is tied on the back. Excess thread is trimmed, and the knot is tucked into the hole to ensure a flawless, thread-free front finish.

The entire process is adapted to the properties of Swift leather: punching force is gentler to avoid hole distortion; thread tension remains consistent to prevent surface wrinkling from over-tightening or loss of structure from over-looseness.

Prominent exterior stitches enhance the bag’s silhouette and highlight artisanal luxury when paired with the gold brown leather and gold hardware. Meanwhile, the locking structure of saddle stitching maintains the three-dimensional shape of the soft-leather Mini Kelly 2, balancing durability and aesthetics in true Hermès fashion.
